Why do you care to spend hours in front of a screen watching a story or even playing it? For the looks, the trends or just the hook of human nature?
With books, a film, songs, games and now, a second TV adaptation, Netflix tossed another coin into the Fantasy Genre with The Witcher.
Discover why Netflix’s The Witcher has the potential of becoming a great tale of the adventures of Geralt of Rivia.
So, check out the 7 Reasons to Watch Netflix’s The Witcher
01 WE CAME FOR THE GAME/NOVELS, WE STAYED FOR THE STORY
Written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher came to life as a series of novels and short stories.
Beloved by many, the saga of Geralt of Rivia, the beast hunter is part of one of the greatest trilogies in Gaming History
And Netflix’s The Witcher took the risk to brought The Continent into the streaming world.
With a level up production for a newcomer series and the hook of a known actor such as Henry Cavill for the leading role, the price was right.
Under the production of Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (The West Wing, Parenthood, DareDevil, The Defenders) and with Sapkowski on the creative team, we jump into the life of a dysfunctional world.
02 THE WITCHER’S MAGIC
And, part of The Witcher’s charm comes from the raw take of broken characters bound by destiny.
Geralt of Rivia, Cirilla Elen and Yennefer of Vengerberg
A Witcher (or The Witcher), a princess and a sorceress enter to a bar
With the hype for long-running series and fantasies, the adventure of this imperfect trio was a great place to start
And, by not trying too hard, The Witcher will let you know their characters in a refreshing manner

03 POWERFUL TRIFECTA
So, we came for the story and in the end, we stayed for the characters.
What’s interesting about The Witcher is the fact that while Geralt is the main force as the front leader (Also, while Cavill delivered faithfully)
Ciri and Yennefer steal the show and our feelings.
By telling us the raw nature of The Continent and their occupants.
They say, between kingdoms, swords, and battles, true beasts are hidden behind human nature.
04 FEMALE CHARACTER 101
In this new era of TV adaptations and filming, how do you build strong female characters without turning them into cartoonish characters?
Or worse dropping their arc at the final breath (Mother of Dragons we see you)
The female leads and their supporting female characters truly deliver in The Witcher.
With the Aretuza chapter with Tissaia and The Kingdom struggle with Queen Calanthe as ruler of Cintra in the other front, we got a remarkable development for only 8 episodes.
Thou, not running away from controversy with the nudity dilemma of fantasy series and female leaders, The Witcher still have some paths to cross for the next chapter.
But this is a solid start.
05 VENGERBERG EFFECT
By far the biggest character development is behind the cold skin of Yennefer of Vengerberg.
Showing us her arc proved to be a win-win decision.
Touching, empathic & deep.
Yennefer is a hidden force for the saga.
Now, Netflix’s mission is to be faithful to their characters (and get as far as possible from the GoT butcher finale or HBO’s Watchmen Manhattan coldness)
To create a fan base through caring, learn from the powerful sorceress and the vibrant work made by Anya Chalotra.
06 LION CUB
On the other hand, the biggest mystery is around the steps of Cirilla the Lion Cub and princess of Cintra.
The decision of not showing her powers, only its consequences is a risky one but keeps us hooked for the next.
Bound to Geralt by surprise, with Ciri we get a glance of the dilemma of birthright and choices.
Her relationship with her Grandmother, her parents & the beast hunter play a big part in the hidden weapon of destruction.
With a powerful finale, expect more from Ciri in the next tale.
07 TOSS A COIN FOR THE NEXT ONE
Netflix’s The Witcher pave the road for a strong entry in the Fantasy genre.
A faithful depiction of the characters that play a part of the beloved saga with pleasant surprises.
Risks well played for the storyline, make The Witcher a must-watch for the fans of solid book adaptations and fantasy genre.
With the challenge ahead of keeping their character’s magnetic force and expanding the action sequences with well-made production, the next season set for 2021 is up to a great task.
